HDD Safety Technologies

A family of technologies in development, shaped by practical HDD and field-operations experience and focused on improving how underground risk is understood before and during a bore.

The problem

Better information for safer underground work

HDD work depends on understanding the planned route, the surrounding utilities and the changing conditions encountered in the field. CO2Zero’s safety research explores how sensors, route verification and digital interpretation could provide better information around that process. These technologies remain in development and are described by intended function—not by unproven results.

The HDD safety family is not presented as a validated commercial product. Each item carries its true maturity status, and the additional provisional application remains under preparation until filing evidence exists.

Smart Nail / Porco-Espinho

A sensing and verification concept within the wider HDD safety family.

Research Concept

Retractable In-Head Probe

A route-verification concept associated with the drill head and the path ahead of the bore.

Research Concept

External Verification Robot

An autonomous external route-verification concept intended to support understanding of the underground path.

Connection to operations

Field experience defines the research questions

Operational context matters

The same field-technology experience that informs ClearBore also shapes the HDD safety portfolio. Documentation reveals what crews need to record; field conditions reveal what they need to understand; engineering and software define how that information could be turned into a usable system.
